Public Safety Exhibit
Reenactments by a local group, Trinity River Desperados, headed by resident Chad Congos who portrays Sam Bass, will offer gunfights in front of the Rock Hotel. Also new this year, an old-fashioned street dance is planned for young and young at heart and Whistle Stop will feature old-fashioned fun and games, including a PTA pie auction and bake sale. The Historic Rock Hotel renovation is almost complete. Learn more about the plans from the Roanoke Historical Society, who is hosting a booth offering a history of the building to visitors as well as information about downtown redevelopment plans.
A special focus of the event is on yesterday: living history and period crafts. The young and young at heart can participate in the Imagination Station learning period crafts from pioneer young men and women. The Roanoke Historical Society members will also be in period dress, and costumes will be available at Ms. Sidi’s Oak Street Cottage for families to pose for a fee for authentic TinType Photography by Ty.
Celebrating the progress of today is excellent entertainment, fun for all ages and artisan vendors! Delicious food and beverages will be available from vendors, including local restaurants. The Police Department will host a public safety event and the Fire Department will handle lost and found and a Teddy Bear clinic. (Kids bring you favorite doll or stuffed animal.) Last, but not least, the Children’s Activity area, LocoMOTION includes a children’s train, bounce houses, climbing wall, games and a teen area.
Come join us for a family fun time to enjoy creative hands on learning, living history, period crafts and reenactments. Enjoy active fun in the Children’s areas, experience the heritage of our area and dance to the Texas Country and Southern Rock bands!
The event is free and free parking and shuttle service is available from the Recreation Center at 501 Roanoke Road.
