In response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus), the City of Roanoke City Council and the Roanoke Economic and Industrial Development Corporation, Type A, authorized a Stimulus Program to assist businesses negatively affected by the pandemic. The Stimulus Program is a local economic development program to help reduce the resulting economic strain on local businesses.
Phase 1 of the Stimulus program was completed on June 30, 2020. The results from this program included $147,000 being distributed to 63 qualified Roanoke businesses.
Phase 2 of the Stimulus Program was completed on January 15, 2021. In this phase, the City offered Roanoke households the opportunity to download one of 400 $50 shopping vouchers on a first-come, first-served basis. These vouchers were able to be redeemed at 63 participating stores and restaurants across Roanoke. Through the voucher program, the City was able to reimburse participating Roanoke businesses a total of $14,000. Of the vouchers redeemed, 83% were used at restaurants, 10% were used on retail, and 7% were used for beauty purchases.
We’d like to say a very special thank you to our residents who took part in this program to help support Roanoke businesses. We’d also like to thank the participating businesses who opted in to participate in the program.
We encourage you to continue the Be Local, Buy Local spirit and keep supporting Roanoke businesses!
The City would like to remind you to continue wearing and purchasing the Give Small, Help Big in 76262 t-shirts. Not only do these t-shirts show your support for 76262 businesses, but all proceeds are used to give back to the Roanoke Food Pantry!
